One of the worst things about water damage is that if it is not adequately cleaned up, your property can develop additional issues that have the potential for more significant damage to both structure and contents. SERVPRO answered a call for water cleanup in a Bridgewater home due to a washing machine failure that resulted in gallons of water spilled in a laundry room. The homeowner cleaned up the soapy mess but felt water was under the floor and other areas of the room.

We immediately scoped the room with our moisture detection equipment and found water hiding behind the baseboards and migration into the hallway carpet. We moved the washing machine to a corner of the room and placed it up on blocks for drying as the homeowner stated she planned to have it repaired and requested it stayed in the room.

We bring all the equipment we need for mitigation of damage from water on our fully-stocked green SERVPRO vans. This way, once we arrive, there are no delays from start to finish for turning around damage from water as quickly as possible.

Before setting up drying equipment, we used portable pumps to pull as much residual remaining water as possible that was near the surface from all the affected areas, so the drying process takes less time to complete. Drying goals are established using humidity levels from unaffected areas of the home.

After drying, our certified technicians scoped the room to ensure we met the drying goals for the moisture levels in the room. Then we cleaned ed and disinfected all affected surfaces. Both of these actions eliminated any remaining soap residue left behind and inhibited the growth of mold as well as left the premises sanitary.

Last month, SERVPRO of Bridgewater received a call about a home in Hillsborough, NJ, whose owner had returned from vacation to find their house falling apart due to a water damage. We were on site within the hour. After extensive remediation, working closely with the homeowner and their insurance, the customer was very happy with our work and we received the following letter:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your team for everything you have done for me and my wife during our time of crisis. …After returning from a vacation I opened the door to my house to find it was literally destroyed from a water leak. … You were at my house shortly thereafter, assessing the damage. You were knowledgeable as to what had to be done, but more importantly very kind and patient with the questions my wife and I had for you. A few hours later you had a team [on site] that started the clean up and drying process of my house. It was reassuring to know that you were there, overseeing the work. Your team was exceptional, in that they were careful with our belongings, but more importantly thoughtful and sympathetic to what we were going through.

I truly hope no one has to go through what my wife and I did, but it is reassuring to know it is people like you and your crew that make it a little easier.
