Each Water damage event is slightly unique and requires a solution tailored to the situation. The process and how we respond to it usually is the same unless the situation calls for other methods to be used. We have developed a multi-step process that can be applied to almost every job in order to ensure each property is treated properly across all active jobs.

Step 1 – Emergency Contact

When we receive our first phone call from you this marks the beginning of the restoration process. A representative will guide you through the process and ask several questions in order to understand the crisis and determine what solution works best for the situation.

Step 2 – Inspection & Water Damage Assessment

During this step our team determines the scope of the water damage. Technicians inspect and determine the extent of the damage and how far the moisture has traveled to ensure the restoration is completed properly.

Step 3 – Water Removal / Water Extraction

Water removal start as soon as possible in order to get rid of the majority of the water. Extraction equipment and vacuum units are used to remove the water from your property as quickly as possible, in order to prevent secondary water damage and mold growth.

Step 4 – Drying & Dehumidification

Specialized equipment is used to remove any remaining water that could be accessed in the previous step. The on-site team will begin to measure the affected area, take temperature and humidity readings. This is then used to determine the optimal number of air movers and dehumidifiers needed to dry your home or business.

Step 5 – Cleaning & Sanitizing

All the affected items and parts of the structure that are restorable are cleaned. We are adept at cleaning contents using a number of techniques. Our professionals are trained to provide sanitizing treatments to remove odors and deodorize your property.

Step 6 – Restoration

The restoration process may involve minor repairs, such as repairing drywall and installing new carpet or even more major repairs. Reconstruction of various areas may be required depending on the severity of the damage.

Our accreditation through the IICRC makes our WRT-Certified professionals well-equipped to manage mitigation and remediation.

How Do We Mitigate Damage?

Mitigation is a needed phase of the recovery process for area homes, as this works to protect the structure and its contents from further water damage. Each aspect of these emergency services contains the spread of loss effects and limits the destructive impact on the property. Some of these early actions can include:

  • Extraction
  • Demolition/Repairs
  • Content Relocation/Cleaning

Water Removal Services

Removing standing water is one of the most prevalent aspects of the mitigation process. It is vital to get this extraction started as soon as possible, which is one of the objectives for the fast response from our centrally located facility. Water removal services are treated with the same urgency, whether the Raritan Valley Community College or single-family homes for the nearly 45,000 residents. We arrive with dozens of tools ranging from pumps to vacuums to manage this pooling.

Water Damage Repairs

Because our professionals also have a general contractor license, we can complete the build-back services your property requires. After water damage incidents, this can mean removing bulk materials during mitigation, repairing the plumbing, or reinstalling removed structural elements. Our capabilities in this regard allow us to transition to this connected phase of recovery after restoration seamlessly.

Content Relocation and Cleaning

Beyond the damage to the structure resulting from moisture and water exposure, contents can also be highly compromised. Prolonged exposure can leave many personal belongings irreparably harmed and ruined. Homeowners must take management of these items seriously. Much of the restoration of these items can happen on-site, which can include:

  • Drying
  • Surface Cleaning
  • Disinfection
  • Deodorization
  • Mold Prevention

Thorough Drying Tools

It is one of the most intricate and necessary processes to thoroughly dry the house after a damage event. We consider all affected materials and spaces impacted by migrating moisture to ensure appropriate measures get taken. The entire process is monitored with sensors and detection devices to track the progress of drying elements like:

  • Air Movers – These high-velocity units produce powerful blasts of dry air to evaporate surface water on building materials in the residence.
  • Dehumidifiers – Moisture content in the environment, which continually increases with the production of air movers, is managed by dehumidification equipment. These units remove humidity through absorption or condensation.
  • Drying Mats – Hardwood, engineered wood, and vinyl plank flooring can benefit from large mats that draw moisture to the surface for removal.

Bridgewater water damage events can be disruptive to your everyday life, even when it does not force the relocation of the house occupants. As leading restoration professionals for the Raritan Valley, we are ready to help you get life back to normal after disasters. Call our SERVPRO of Bridgewater team today at (908) 222-2020.

We Have The State Of The Art Equipment Necessary For Water Damage Restoration In Bridgewater

Extraction Tools for Standing Water in Bridgewater Homes

Many property owners recognize some of the machines and devices that aid water removal and extraction from Bridgewater homes. Loss incidents can quickly take a toll on a property, encouraging our SERVPRO team to always have the industry-leading equipment available to get the job done efficiently. In many situations, the affected surfaces can play a role in the extraction tools used to recover the damages.

In any situation where more than two inches of standing water exists, the ideal approach for water removal in Bridgewater homes is electric submersible pumps. These tools can offer a continuous, quiet draw of water from the affected areas until the depth reaches a point where other tools and extraction accessories might be necessary. In some situations where solids might exist in the standing water, or higher volumes exist than is suitable for sump pump output, we can instead lean on trash pumps or even high-capacity extractor trucks to help.

Attachments for vacuums and extractors can be a critical part of water removal once the level has dropped below two inches. Depending on the flooring material affected, there are several options available that can make removal efforts more efficient to quicken the start of drying. It is the task of our SERVPRO production manager to determine which tools can make the restoration job as thorough and fast as it can be.

Carpet Wands

While there are applications for wands in tighter, inaccessible areas of your home, their primary use comes when carpeted floors become saturated. Wet fibers can benefit from weighted extraction pads and other accessories we use to force moisture to the surface. Onboard vacuums can pull this water out of the area to maximize drying efforts.

Squeegee Wands

Much like the technology used to pull water off of your windshield when you are cleaning it at a gas station, the squeegees our SERVPRO team uses can remove nearly all of the surface moisture on hardwood flooring if the planks have not absorbed it. These wands can redirect water flow while simultaneously removing it from the area.

These tools can benefit our professionals through the water removal needs your home has after substantial water loss events. Give our SERVPRO of Bridgewater team a call to help however you need at (908) 222-2020.

Efficient Drying Equipment For Water Loss In Bridgewater Homes

Water loss incidents can affect Bridgewater homes in different ways. Still, with the fast spread of damages throughout your property, it is a situation that needs addressing quickly and professionally. Without a complete understanding of the damage to your home, it can be easy to inadequately clean and dry up the saturation and standing water, allowing structural weakening, degradation, and hazardous conditions to persist. Our professionals have advanced detection equipment to get the full scope of the damage to begin thorough and intricate extraction, drying, and cleaning efforts.

Not all water loss events in your Bridgewater home leave standing water throughout the affected areas, but the water damage effects still require the trained personnel and advanced equipment available to professional restorers like ours. The SERVPRO experts that arrive at your home waste no time in identifying the threats and getting to work on vital mitigation efforts that can reduce restoration time and save our customers money.

While mitigation has many steps, one of the most important when facing water damage threats is drying. We have a broad inventory of recovery equipment, including many high-velocity air movers, a variety of dehumidifiers, and even specialized equipment like the Injectidry system. Our SERVPRO Green Fleet stays stocked with these advanced tools and machines so that our professionals can respond to all water loss emergencies at a moment’s notice.

Air movers can be a critical component to the drying and recovering of a water-damaged home. With strategic placement based on the location of moisture pockets, these forced air systems can displace moisture with heated air, sending a vapor into the environment. This moisture in the air can get removed and collected by our LGR or desiccant dehumidification equipment also installed throughout the property.

While drying is only a portion of water damage recovery, the more efficient and effective this process is the minor reconstruction and further restoration techniques the property needs. You can depend on the quick response and expertise of our SERVPRO of Bridgewater professionals to make water loss emergencies “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call at (908) 222-2020.

Moisture Monitoring for Flood Damage in Bridgewater Homes

Flood Damage Can Be Tracked in Bridgewater Properties with Moisture Detectors

Moisture and water damage impact your home in several ways following a flood. Even without the threats of contaminants, substantial volumes of water can be destructive and ruinous to exposed materials. Special detection devices help monitor the movement of moisture to dry the structure more efficiently. Three common ways related water damage can affect the restoration process include:

  • Surface moisture
  • Environmental moisture content
  • Hidden damp pockets

Surface Moisture Meters

The surface moisture meter is among the most heavily used devices and units for tracking and monitoring the migration of moisture from flood damage in Bridgewater homes. This small handheld device is placed against moist building materials to provide a saturation reading that shows directly how water has impacted the material and can gauge its salvageability.

Probing Moisture Detection

Much like surface moisture meters, probing units penetrate beyond the surface layer to track the progress of water that has been absorbed into affected materials and wall systems. This often indicates where controlled demolition might be necessary when it is determined that water has thoroughly overwhelmed specific exposed materials.

Hygrometers

Hygrometers measure the relative humidity and moisture content of the environment. This is helpful information to determine the best approach for drying and evaporation techniques. Relative humidity can directly impact the pace and success of air movers and dehumidification equipment.

Thermal Imagery (Infrared)

Our thermal imagery cameras are another moisture detection process our team can use to find damp areas of the structure that require further attention from drying products. These small devices are attached to mobile tablets to make their application on the worksite faster and user friendly. The premise of this approach is that cooler areas, which often indicate the presence of moisture or water, appear differently than the static warmth of building materials inside a property.

With any water or flood damage incident to your home or business, it is necessary to ensure that moisture is tracked throughout the structure. All drying processes must be validated before restoration completes, and there are several tools in our inventory to help with this process. Give our SERVPRO of Bridgewater team a call today at (908) 222-2020.

Identifying a Leaking Pipe in Your Bridgewater Home

2/18/2022 (Permalink)

Damaged Pipe in Wall The first step to resolving water damage is calling your local trained professionals at SERVPRO of Bridgewater.

There Are Signs to Point to Water Damage in Your Bridgewater Property.

Water damage can happen in hundreds of ways, from appliance failure to flash flooding. Knowing how to find the source of water damage is a valuable step in getting mitigation and restoration work started as soon as possible.

Wet Spots and Leaking

There are several methods of tracking water damage to Bridgewater properties. Some of these include:

  • Structural Degradation – The deterioration of building materials, even to the point of collapse or destruction. Bloating or swelling of drywall, for example, can show that a plumbing leak is nearby.
  • Dripping from Porous Materials and Seams – Physical dripping or flowing of water through materials like drywall, ceiling tile, and the seams of other installed elements can show where a close portion of pipe has been compromised.
  • Sagging Materials – Installed elements, mostly ceiling materials, can sag and droop under the weight of water saturation. This is a very direct effect of water exposure.

Thermal Imagery Detection

Using sophisticated detection tools and practices can help find and ultimately remove moisture pockets and damage. Among the most versatile and efficient solutions is thermal imagery (infrared.) Using tablets fitted with special equipment and apps, we can track temperature differences in the surface materials. Cooler temperatures often indicate the presence of water or damp materials

Rapid Response is Critical!

You must never wait to call on us for water damage in Basking Ridge. Water spreads through the home and may get absorbed into your walls, furnishings, flooring, and other contents. Rapid response to begin mitigation is crucial because the water damage timeline includes the following:

  • Furnishings could bleed, leading to permanent stains on wood floors or carpets
  • Books, photos, and other paper goods may start to swell and disintegrate

Within the First 24 Hours:

  • Metal surfaces may tarnish
  • Drywall begins to swell or crumble
  • Inks and dyes from paper goods and cloth may stain and spread
  • Furnishings can swell or crack
  • Musty odors may develop

Within 48 Hours to a Week:

  • Mildew and mold begin to colonize
  • Windows, wall studs, and doors swell and warp
  • Paint and wallpaper may blister and peel
  • Metal can corrode and rust
  • Hardwood flooring can begin cupping, warping, swelling, or buckling
  • Biohazard contamination may be present

How Can Minor Leaks Cause Significant Water Damage in My Basking Ridge Home?

9/20/2021 (Permalink)

water damage in closet, drywall with flood cuts, carpet removed When water damages your home don't worry. SERVPRO uses the latest technology and equipment for every job.

Small Leaks are Insidious and Allow Substantial Water Damage to Develop Over Time.

Everyone knows when a major pipe rupture or a large water container is punctured at their Basking Ridge residence. The effects of one of these significant water-related events are immediately noticeable and quickly addressed. Conversely, minor leaks often continue unnoticed for extended periods, and their impacts quietly accumulate before they are discovered.

Fortunately, some Basking Ridge water damage remediators have the training and tools to expertly locate these insidious water issues before they cause major problems. Our skilled technicians receive formal instruction on the telltale signs of small water leaks and their likely locations. Moreover, they carry specialized equipment, like infrared cameras, moisture sensors and meters, and Thermo hygrometers, to pinpoint exactly where they are. These resources often enable our water damage remediation experts to find even the most hidden leaks and adequately address them in less time than it takes other firms.

If left unaddressed, how can small water leaks lead to major water damage:

  • First, water from relatively minor roof or ceiling leaks, slowly dripping pipes, corroded water containers, or malfunctioning appliances, is absorbed by building materials over time
  • Next, depending on environmental conditions at your home, impacted materials foster the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi
  • Then, these microbes can lead to extensive mold growths, cause home destroying dry rot, and fill your residence with foul, musty odors
  • At the same time, rust stains may appear, and metallic surfaces could corrode
  • Ultimately, as building materials become thoroughly saturated, floors, walls, and ceilings could collapse

So, while burst pipes or basement flooding may get your immediate attention, always remain vigilant against seemingly minor leaks. SERVPRO of Bridgewater, If you ever need an inspection or help to remediate water damage, don’t hesitate to call us at (908) 222-2020 for assistance.

Is Thermal Imagery Reliable for Moisture Tracking in Basking Ridge Homes?

6/10/2021 (Permalink)

TI camera pointing at ceiling SERVPRO has advanced devices for discovering and removing water and moisture from homes in Basking Ridge--Like this thermal imaging camera

With multiple moisture meters in our inventory, thermography might not always be best for Basking Ridge.

Whether it is collecting information and data for our proprietary software like SERVPRO DryBook or tracking the progress and production of drying efforts, several moisture detection devices play a part in water restoration. In many cases, infrared and thermal imagery provide relevant results to track changing moisture conditions for placing drying instruments effectively.

What Advantages Exist with Thermal Infrared Imagery?

Thermal imagery cameras in our inventory are versatile and feature a user-friendly interface to efficiently track water damage in Basking Ridge homes. No specific skills or training are required to operate these tools, though interpretation comes with training and experience. Some of the advantages to choosing thermal infrared include:

  • Portable and lightweight
  • Tracks large surfaces simultaneously
  • It can be used to identify drying shortcomings

Is Thermography the Best Moisture Monitoring Choice for Area Homes?

Our technicians realize that there is no one set way to learn the placement and presence of moisture throughout the property. While thermal imagery can help in these situations, it is often not ideal for tracking water consistently. Surface moisture meters and hygrometers can both continually track the presence and migration of moisture to place air movers and dehumidifiers effectively.

Tracking moisture migration is critical for long-term drying solutions for damaged properties. We have several devices that can work in this regard. Our SERVPRO of Bridgewater team can help when you call (908) 222-2020.

What Ways Reliably Handle Rust During Water Damage Restoration In My Bridgewater Home?

SERVPRO technician consulting with customer SERVPRO technicians are ready and available to assist you with water damages in your Bridgewater home.

SERVPRO Uses Chemical Agents during Water Damage Remediation to Control Rust in Bridgewater Homes

Water intrusions have different effects, including causing rust in metallic items or surfaces. Unfortunately, rust causes deep staining in fabrics such as cotton, silk, linen, synthetic fiber, and wool if the exposure is not handled properly.

When performing water damage restoration in Bridgewater properties, preventing contact between fabrics and metal items is the best defense against rust stains. However, it is not always feasible to prevent such contact. SERVPRO technicians can help address light and thoroughly impregnated stains in carpets, upholstery, draperies, and other fabrics when performing water cleanup in your home.

One of the products our technicians rely on is Rusticide which has strong acidic properties that help dissolve rust stains from the affected fabrics. We apply cautiously with a nozzle bottle and agitate with a tool like a bone scraper to break loose the stains. Flushing the area with shampoo helps remove rust residues and Rusticide remnants.  Sometimes color changes might appear in the areas we clean this way. We apply diluted ammonia to restore the original color.

SERVPRO technicians seek to restore more items in your home to their preloss state during water damage remediation. We can help you address any unexpected issues when dealing with:

  • Burst pipes
  • Ceiling leaks
  • Flood restoration

SERVPRO of Bridgewater delivers professional water damage restoration services. Call us at (908) 222-2020 when you need assistance.

Removing water after a leak from a kitchen pipe is not always a simple task. Sometimes Bridgewater property owners incorrectly assume that soaking up the water with old towels and opening windows is an adequate solution. However, this is not always the case. It is vital to have a thorough approach to mitigate secondary damage, such as mold growth or warped walls and flooring. Dehumidifiers are a critical component in the cleanup of your home.

How Does a Dehumidifier Work?

SERVPRO Uses Dehumidifiers to Remove Excess Moisture from the Air

Water removal during your Bridgewater restoration project typically requires the use of dehumidification equipment. They are important because they take the water vapor from the air, which lowers the air's humidity level. After the humidifier removes the moisture, the air is exhausted back into the room.

How Do Technicians Maintain a Balanced Drying System?

  • The amount of moisture removed by dehumidifiers needs to be the same as the amount added to the air from the excess water's evaporation.
  • Air quality is impacted if the air is too dry.
  • Dehumidifiers should be evenly placed throughout the impacted area of your home to ensure consistent drying conditions.

What are the Different Types of Dehumidifiers?

  • Refrigerant Dehumidifiers: There are conventional refrigerants and low grain refrigerants (LGR). Both use refrigerants to cool air below its dew point, allowing the condensation to drain into the collection tank. LGRs can lower the humidity ratio more effectively than the conventional refrigerants.
  • Desiccant dehumidifiers use chemicals to absorb excess moisture while the warm reactivation air releases back into the room. Desiccant dehumidifiers are very effective in removing water and lowering humidity. However, they run the risk of over-drying materials such as wood or carpet.

Contact SERVPRO Technicians in Bridgewater to Perform Water Removal in Your Property.

When water seeps to various surfaces in your property, it can cause significant damage, especially if ignored for an extended period. Fortunately, if you hire SERVPRO professionals to help you restore your Bridgewater home, you can avoid extensive damage.

What are the dangers of trapped moisture?

The damage that water causes is painfully apparent, and that is the reason why you need to perform prompt water removal in your Bridgewater home. Some property owners attempt to remove the water themselves. However, without proper skills and the right water removal equipment, the homeowners end up performing a poor job. The moisture left behind can create risks such as:

Compromising structural integrity of building materials

Moisture behind drywall may cause supports and posts to rot. This can significantly affect your wall's ability to hold up the roof.

Mold growth

Mold produces toxic spores that can cause severe health conditions to the property’s residents. Our technicians can treat areas with mold using advanced products. We can use vanquish, a disinfectant that destroys 99 percent of organisms it comes into contact with on the surface.

Decreased value of a home

A poorly restored property may lose its sale value. The moisture may cause an unfriendly environment to live in, making it difficult to resell.

How do restorers find moisture in confined places?

Water in confined areas can provide a friendly environment for mold growth and odors if not handled on time. SERVPRO’s team of diligent technicians can check for moisture in areas such as:

  • Outlet covers
  • Under appliances
  • Built-ins
  • Behind drywall

We can use a thermal imaging camera to monitor the moisture in building materials. The device helps us see how water traveled throughout the structure.

How do you dry an affected property?

Water affects materials in two ways. It can directly touch the materials, or moisture (water vapor) can touch the materials. To dry a property effectively, it is essential to remove the water and dry the air. After our technicians pump out the excess water, we begin drying the air. If too much moisture is in the air, it takes longer to dry affected materials. Ventilation is essential for effective drying. Therefore, we can open all windows and doors to enable dry fresh air to enter the property.

To dry the air, our technicians control the temperature and use drying tools like air movers and dehumidifiers to control humidity levels. We also use the science of psychometry to monitor the drying process regularly. This enables us to determine if the drying process is working.

Water damage should not distort your daily routine. Contact SERVPRO of Bridgewater at (908) 222-2020 for efficient water removal services that can make a water loss seem, “Like it never even happened.”

What Tools Help with Water Removal?

SERVPRO equipment in kitchen SERVPRO has the tools and skilled technicians your home needs after a water incident occurs. Give us a call today.

For Water Removal, SERVPRO Technicians Use Professional Tools to Restore Your Bridgewater Home

Once water infiltrates your Bridgewater home, it starts to deteriorate most materials that it comes into contact with. Hiring the experts in the field of water restoration ensures your interior is back to normal faster. At SERVPRO, we are Faster To Any Size Disaster, and we can get to work in as little as four hours after you call us for emergency service.

How Does the Cleanup Begin?

Following any water loss call, our team takes a look at your need for water removal in Bridgewater. A thorough assessment is performed so that we may determine the level of damage, and a solid plan of action can get set in motion. Our team takes all of the necessary precautions to lessen the migration of water, and we start removal efforts quickly to limit the amount of secondary damage. Some of the steps that we take include:

  •   Scanning the water loss zone to identify any electrical hazards
  •   All technicians wear personal protection equipment (PPE)
  •   Testing of any water that may be contaminated, such as chemicals found in flooded basements or fuel that may have come from water in a connected garage
  •   Our crew works to find any areas where water may have migrated to locate hidden pockets of moisture

What Happens During Water Removal Efforts?

After our team is onsite and a plan is in place, we utilize extraction tools and industrial-strength pumps to take as much water from the loss zone as quickly and efficiently as possible. Once we remove standing water, we have a unique formula to determine the number of drying implements necessary to facilitate the next phase. Some of the drying equipment we use includes:

Even if you have some tools on hand, DIY methods are not recommended for water removal. Due to the difference in consumer equipment versus the professional equipment that our Green Fleet comes equipped with, it is best to leave all cleanup efforts and drying to our skilled team. Our centrifugal air movers boost airflow, while the dehumidifiers help to capture moisture in the air throughout your home.

How Can You Stop Foul Odor Development?

Once we use our powerful pumps to remove standing water throughout the loss zone, our team of skilled technicians carefully remove porous materials. We take out carpeting and padding that cannot be salvaged and ensure they get replaced with brand-new materials. What we know about the impact of microbial growth includes the following:

  •   Harmful bacteria start growing within 24 to 48 hours after your water loss begins
  •   Surfaces are susceptible to mildew and mold growth, with the most significant threat coming from hidden moisture pockets and saturated porous materials
  •   We can treat surfaces with antimicrobial agents that help inhibit or slow the onset of microbial growth

Why Can’t Moisture Be Left to Dry Naturally?

It would be best if you never ignored moisture or humidity left in your home, as it can bring on the potential for mold growth. Water travels into drier spaces, which can leave hidden cracks and crevices riddled with moisture. We work diligently to speed up drying times and look at any walls or baseboards in the home that may have moisture behind them. If necessary, we perform controlled demolition that allows us to remove damaged building materials.

What if Moisture Got Behind My Walls or Under My Flooring?

We have a range of specialized equipment made for structural cavity drying when moisture lurks within your walls. By creating airflow while increasing pressure, it helps to remove moisture from the impacted area. Air moving equipment helps in conjunction with open windows or doors to create an open-system drying method. We can also create a controlled drying zone for smaller spaces by using dehumidifiers and physical barriers that allow us to exchange the moisture for dry air.

If you have saturated hardwood flooring, the SERVPRO Injectidry system exchanges air using targeted pressure. Air movement acts as a vehicle for the moisture, and we can salvage your flooring if water removal begins quickly enough. We also have drying mats and tenting methods that help to speed up the drying process.

When Will My Interior be Safe Again?

Our team double-checks everything for structural integrity and any leftover moisture with the final steps of water removal. We thoroughly clean and disinfect your interior using products registered by the EPA so that you can rest assured your home is safe to resume regular daily activity.

SERVPRO of Bridgewater is the team to call if you need prompt, reliable water removal services. Have a crew deployed to your home fast, and give us a call 24/7 at (908) 222-2020. It is always our goal to make it “Like it never even happened.”

After a loss incident, water can migrate beyond where you can easily dry it in your Bridgewater home – our SERVPRO team can help with detection and drying.

DIY water restoration is more and more common for Bridgewater homes, but this often comes at more of a hassle than it might be worth. A misstep such as misjudging the migration of water throughout the property can lead to costly deterioration and microbial threats.

While you might believe that surface moisture is the only primary concern for water restoration in Bridgewater homes, but water penetrating beyond this surface to wall cavities, subflooring, or other sensitive materials could be disastrous. Without moisture detection equipment, it can be difficult to mark the path of water migration through the property.

What Detection Tools Can Identify Moisture Pockets?

Sophisticated equipment and technologies help our project manager to help identify current moisture pockets and dampness in the affected materials. A combination of multiple devices ensures that the information inputted into our SERVPRO DryBook software is accurate. These include:

What are the Main Causes of Standing Water in Your Bridgewater Home?

When dealing with standing water, the first thing to determine is where it is coming from.  Our technicians are experts at inspection and can find the source with little difficulty.  With all that said, there are numerous reasons why you might find water around your house, some more apparent than others, but these are the primary ones:

  • Snowmelt and rainwater from damaged roofs
  • Appliance malfunctions
  • Pipe ruptures
  • Water containers that are leaking
  • Sinks that have overflowed

The sooner these sources are found and stopped, the less damage your house is likely to suffer.  In our work, we have encountered and successfully dealt with each of these specific problems.

What is Our Water Removing and Home Restoration Procedure?

After the origin of the water has been located and shut-off or blocked, our technicians get to work removing the liquid and restoring your home to its original condition.  Using wet vacs, submersible pumps, or powerful extractors, we rapidly remove standing water from your residence.  Dehumidifiers and air movers are then employed to dry out your interiors, furnishings, and other contents.  Simultaneously, we dry interior walls and ceilings with advanced injectidry systems.  Following all of our drying procedures, we use foggers to inject fungicides and deodorants into even the most difficult-to-access areas to prevent future fungal issues, like mold, mildew, and dry rot, and eliminate unpleasant odors.

Cleaning Up Dishwater Water Damage in a Bridgewater Kitchen

Many homeowners may assume most dishwasher mishaps are easily noticeable, but slow leaks in or behind a unit can pose issues that affect the structural integrity and safety of your home if left unchecked. Something as simple as a leak in a dishwasher hose, a loose clamp, or a torn gasket can be enough to cause water damage in your kitchen.

If you find that your Bridgewater kitchen has water damage from a dishwasher leak, the team at SERVPRO is always available to restore your kitchen to its preloss condition. SERVPRO also offers a general contracting license for Somerset County residents so that you can enjoy comprehensive restoration services after a disaster.

Diagnosing Dishwasher Leaks

    •    Check on the gasket. A leak can come from something as simple as the rubber gasket lining your dishwasher being torn, cracked, or otherwise worn from age.
    •    Take a look at the hoses. Shut off power at your circuit breaker first. Most dishwashers have two hoses: one for filling the unit with water, and one for draining.
    •    Assess water levels. A dishwasher that is too full can also cause leaks. The water level on most dishwashers should be around the lower edge of the door. Check for clogs if the water level is higher than that.
    •    Examine the water inlet valve. While examining the hoses, make sure to take a look at the water inlet valve that they are attached to. Replace the valve as needed.

How SERVPRO Can Help
When SERVPRO technicians come to your home, they can get straight to work, mitigating damage to the surrounding floors, walls, and fixtures, including cabinetry. Because wood and drywall are porous materials, it is crucial to thoroughly extract water, disinfect surfaces, and dry areas with industrial-grade air movers and dehumidifiers. Not only do these tried-and-true methods eliminate conditions under which bacteria can thrive, but it also saves cabinets and walls from being damaged by exposure to water. Flooring also needs to be addressed. In a kitchen with ceramic tile, water exposure over a long period can soak the mortar under and around tiles, which can affect adhesion to the floor. Vinyl flooring can delaminate after long-term exposure to water and lose its ability to stick to the floor entirely.

SERVPRO of Bridgewater wants to leave your home looking, “Like it never even happened.” Call (908) 222-2020 for disaster cleanup service that can be at your home within mere hours.

Removing Standing Water From Wall Cavities In Bridgewater Homes

One of the most problematic locations for water damage to exist is within the wall cavities separating rooms of your Bridgewater property. As challenging as locating the source of the water loss incident might be under these conditions, identifying the full extent of the damage can be equally tricky. We invest our resources into always having the ideal equipment for the job, and in these cases, that means powerful discovery tools that can showcase moisture and dampness beyond what the eyes of our technicians can determine.

While we have multiple detection devices, often one of the most pressing concerns with known these losses is water removal from Bridgewater homes. Our entire SERVPRO mitigation team dispatched to your damaged address works quickly to understand the spread of the effects and what machines and personnel are necessary to return the property to preloss condition. With our focus on having modern machines for the work that we do, we can provide an efficient and thorough result.

Once standing water and excessive moisture pockets have gotten identified by our sophisticated devices, we can provide access for our technicians to reach them. This process often involves flood cuts which remove damaged portions of wall materials to leave adequate space for low-profile air movers to get into these open areas between rooms and dry out the dampness discovered there. If standing water gets found, we can utilize multiple units to help address these concerns as promptly as possible, including wet-vacs, sump pumps, and even full extractor trucks from our Green Fleet.

Extraction is only part of the equation to fully restoring any water-damaged property in our area. Our technicians become accredited through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) in Water Restoration (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) to provide effective mitigation that goes far beyond water removal. We can make loss incidents “Like it never even happened.”

We have multiple concerns to address when we first reach your property, and our detection equipment like our thermal and infrared imagery can help us to focus our efforts in the right place as promptly as possible. The First Steps After Water Damage In Bridgewater Homes

After a disaster hits, it can be overwhelming for many Bridgewater homeowners to know what steps to take. With how many water loss incidents that our professionals work to restore every year, the likelihood of these emergencies is high. Having a better idea of how you can help to clean and dry your property as you wait for the appropriate restoration professionals like ours to arrive can reduce overall costs and the time involved in recovery.

One of the initial steps that you can take to help overcome water damage in your Bridgewater household is determining the source of the incident. In many situations, water loss can continue to worsen until the plumbing break, leaking fixture, faulty appliance, or other damaging situation gets dealt with directly. Without the appropriate skill set to restore and repair many of these causes on your own, it is wise to work to sever the flow of water to the source of this damage with individual shutoff valves or by preventing flow where service lines first enter the property.

Often, modern shutoff valves have a flat metal fixture with a rubberized handle. These can be many different colors. When installed properly, these valves function normally while running in line with the pipe where it gets installed. When it runs perpendicular to this pipe at a ninety-degree angle, the flow of water ceases. Shutting off these valves can eliminate the supply of water to whatever breach exists in the system and can prevent the situation from continually getting worse until professional help from our SERVPRO team arrives.

The team arrives with the full measure of our mitigation and recovery equipment and can work to both repair the damages to the source of this water loss incident and begin restoring the results of the disaster caused to the house. Our SERVPRO professionals have extensive training in water loss recovery, including certifications from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification in both Applied Structural Drying (ASD) and Water Restoration (WRT).

If you want to make water loss incidents “Like it never even happened.” give our SERVPRO of Bridgewater team a call today at (908) 222-2020.

SERVPRO Helps Bridgewater Homeowner With The Aftermath Of DIY Water Cleanup

One of the worst things about water damage is that if it is not adequately cleaned up, your property can develop additional issues that have the potential for more significant damage to both structure and contents. That is why any time there is a water loss event in your home of any size, especially if you suspect water migrated to unreachable areas, you should have the affected area professionally cleaned.

SERVPRO answered a call for water cleanup in a Bridgewater home due to a washing machine failure that resulted in gallons of water spilled in a laundry room. The homeowner cleaned up the soapy mess but felt water was under the floor and other areas of the room.

We immediately scoped the room with our moisture detection equipment and found water hiding behind the baseboards and migration into the hallway carpet. We moved the washing machine to a corner of the room and placed it up on blocks for drying as the homeowner stated she planned to have it repaired and requested it stayed in the room.

We bring all the equipment we need for mitigation of damage from water on our fully-stocked green SERVPRO vans. This way, once we arrive, there are no delays from start to finish for turning around damage from water as quickly as possible.

Before setting up drying equipment, we used portable pumps to pull as much residual remaining water as possible that was near the surface from all the affected areas, so the drying process takes less time to complete. Drying goals are established using humidity levels from unaffected areas of the home.

After drying, our certified technicians scoped the room to ensure we met the drying goals for the moisture levels in the room. Then we cleaned ed and disinfected all affected surfaces. Both of these actions eliminated any remaining soap residue left behind and inhibited the growth of mold as well as left the premises sanitary.

Get water cleanup done professionally and avoid secondary issues from improper cleaning, even on small amounts of water damage. Call SERVPRO of Bridgewater  at (908) 222-2020 when you need help because We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Last month, SERVPRO of Bridgewater received a call about a home in Hillsborough, NJ, whose owner had returned from vacation to find their house falling apart due to a water damage. We were on site within the hour. After extensive remediation, working closely with the homeowner and their insurance, the customer was very happy with our work and we received the following letter:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your team for everything you have done for me and my wife during our time of crisis. …After returning from a vacation I opened the door to my house to find it was literally destroyed from a water leak. … You were at my house shortly thereafter, assessing the damage. You were knowledgeable as to what had to be done, but more importantly very kind and patient with the questions my wife and I had for you. A few hours later you had a team [on site] that started the clean up and drying process of my house. It was reassuring to know that you were there, overseeing the work. Your team was exceptional, in that they were careful with our belongings, but more importantly thoughtful and sympathetic to what we were going through.

I truly hope no one has to go through what my wife and I did, but it is reassuring to know it is people like you and your crew that make it a little easier.

With much thanks and appreciation,

Robert
